Usually the car dealer has one person on staff that has some previous experience with bank or finance approvals. They advertise cute names like "credit fairy", "credit angel", or something similar. This person usually sees the occasional applicant with a complex credit situation. 

This person may not have access to a wide variety of lenders and may not get you the best terms or the best - lowest interest rates. Some will offer you loans that do not get reported back to the credit agencies (like Equifax and Transunion) and do not help you fix and reestablish your credit. In some instances, they may harm your credit further that it already is!
